On 27 May 2021, the American Chamber of Commerce in Southwest China (AmCham Southwest China) held “American Businsess in China Forum & Summer Mixer” in Chengdu and exclusively released “2021 American Business in China White Paper” (“White Paper”) which was recently published in Southwest China. Representatives from the top 500 companies in southwestern China, business leaders, celebrities and officers from governments attended the event. On the occasion, wonderful keynote speeches were given by executives from Chengdu International School, JLL, MetLife Insurance, W Chengdu and HSBC. As a leading telecommunications service provider, HKT was also invited to the event and setup a booth to have in-depth exchanges of views with experts from the financial, manufacturing, service consulting, and education industries.

The White Paper is now in 23rd edition. Throughout the chapters, more than 900 foreign companies operating in China, as members of the AmCham Southwest China, discuss the challenges that faced by different industries and they offer practical advice on tackling such challenges. In this year’s White Paper, member companies generally had a positive attitude towards China’s market growth, profit potential and business environment. And 75% of the US companies were optimistic about China’s economic recovery in the next two years. Despite the economic uncertainties, 85% of companies had no plan to move their production or procurement out of China. Two-thirds of the American companies planned to increase their investment in China this year, while 61% believed China would continue to open up its market.
